Art By Autumn Skye Morrison "Beloved" The Divine Feminine is hot. Not only is she juicy, sassy, patient, outspoken, nurturing, and wild, but she is also a hot topic of this age.
Beside the Divine Feminine sits the Divine Masculine, and although this archetype is given less attention at this time, he is surely spoken of and honored. With all of this talk about the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine, I think it is easy to be confused, and assume that these terms are contradictory.
Yes, women are hearing the call, and are awakening, embracing, rising, and honoring the Divine Feminine that lives and moves, and wants to burst forth into the world for the purpose of healing; and this is wonderful and powerful, and necessary. However, though I love the image the terms "Divine Feminine" and "Divine Masculine" evoke, I feel the terms imply a separation, or a polarization of the divine– "Masculine"-"Feminine". I don't think this is the deal.
As I look back to my experience as a child, I see that the masculine and feminine energies were balanced in my being. I was outspoken, active, empathetic, and receptive. Gradually, the world (in the form of doctors, teachers, parents, siblings, or peers) told me, in words or actions, that it was not acceptable for me to honor my masculine energies. I began to tame my voice, quiet my body. I began to become unbalanced. As a teenager, of course, this suppressed energy demanded to be made manifest, and would come out sideways, and often in ways that were perceived as destructive, or risqué. As I began my journey toward balance, I left college and decided to travel across America. I burst out of my "tribe." I was somewhat of an seeker/pioneer. I had adventures, and learned so much about myself. I began to allow more of myself to re-awaken more fully. I have lived many lives. I have had many experiences, and as I look back I see that all along I was seeking balance.
When I look at individuals who I see as exemplifying the Divine Feminine or the Divine Masculine, I do not see individuals who are completely comprised of feminine energies or masculine energies. The people I perceive manifesting the Divine Feminine/Divine Masculine are people who walk in balance and honor both masculine and feminine expressions in their being.
What I see now is that the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine are not separate forces, but instead, the same vibration being expressed through polarized terms. The Divine Feminine is the willingness of women to express all of who they are in the world–the active, receptive, outspoken, gentle, protective, sensuous self. The Divine Masculine is the willingness of men to express all of who they are in the world–the receptive, active, gentle, outspoken, sensuous, protective self. We are mirrors. We are the same.
The marriage of the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine is the honoring of the place within the other where the entire universe dwells, and it is the honoring of the expression of the other where the entire universe dwells–it is the realization and the commitment to acknowledge and support all of us in the full range of our beings. It is the commitment to wholeness.
